The LD80 Digital drums is a small set not the same size as drum set.....even though played by sticks, as they are
Its very different to other brand digital drums which dont have the lighted teaching function with red lights on each pad showing the next pad to hit
Left right coordination will however be learnt just the same as on drums ..but later if you bought real drums then the motions of the arms would just be more extended on big drums
TEACHING FUNCTION
The main purpose is teaching you to play drums by having you choose any of it patterns and simply follow each PADS guide light ,,,,( Tempo ( speed control ) means you can slow them down too which makes them very easy to follow , and as your confidence on each particular pattern increases, speed them up slowly until you are remembring them without any guide lights anyway
TO prevent boredom they come with variations buttons ,,,,,,and many variations in each style
In ROCK
Rock 1 Pattern ( with and extra
ROck 2
heavy rock ...etc
BLUES are one of the next steps after mastering basic ..they use offbeats which require a little more skill
LATIN are very funky and cool beats to play as they use more of the drums .. congas - bongos cowbells etc ( not just the snare, bass and toms of rock )
( Each pad can be set to a different type of drum )
( there are 128 percussions sounds in all to set the pads too )
You might then just record a basic drum beat you make with a BAss drum and hihats ( The little cymbals clashing togther )
And then play over this recording for fun with congas
SO casio really have produced another unique learning tool .......
We know good drummers who love thhis LD80 as it introduces them to many patterns they werent sure of .....
but esp the ability to play record and pay extra beats of the own with the background patterns ...( as if its 2 drummers now playing )
Using the headphones you dont disturb others too
TO enhance your limited volume just plug the headphones out into a aux plug at the back of your HIFI and use it to amplify the sounds
If you want to play the drums into a full band of other instruments you can utilise the MIDI OUT into another MIDI on a Keyboard for instance which had recorded a whole lot of Saxophones Bass guitars and so on ( A midi cable is cheap )
Or you could use mIdi OUT to a MIDI sequencing package and record them to see them as notation automatically in a program like cakewalk
In this form the LD80 would become a Drum controller )
you can consider using a drum method to help you learn drum notation and other basic patterns LD 80
Have at look at this one here...
Also you become a GOLD ( ADMIN SOFTWARE support on our educational forum free with normal members dont get ) and learn more about MIDI Format songs ....downloading these from the internet , the LD will play back and light up the Drum parts of famous songs you might want to learn -
to connect to the PC A MIDI to US B Interface ( Around R500 to R600 is needed ) but you can see the notes in notation from Interent downloaded MIDI FIles without connecting to PC with special software we help you donwload free too.
Casios support technically for the instrument if it gives problems , as resilient a little machine and unlikely too
As a teacher most of my life before starting our music sales at SKYSUN samusicalinstruments I saw more and more the value of MIDI FORMAT SOUNDS .......the enddless possibilities, and what Ive written above I hope will inspire you to forget about notions about whether you are musical enough .Learning music is just logical, a little effort and someone NOT to tell you its difficult ...it isnt . Especially with the back up of casio and other great software technology. If you need support were always here when you join our online forum for paid purchases......
This is great instrument for children and adults alike . Fact is with a little application one learns as much about drumming on this machine than real lessons ,,,,but its still advisable in the early stages ot get yourself a book to help you a along
The manual with the LD 80 is more for technical help around the instrument
