 COMPUTER MUSIC PRODUCTION in Multimedia (16 weeks)  
Module 01 Introduction to music sequencer programs (CAKEWALK) Module 02 The Soundcard , MIDI, Audio, Console effects and Notation.

MODULE 01 INTRODUCTION TO SEQUENCER PROGRAMS 

PART1 Theory of Applications of Midi Sequencer programs 

  • Track parameters of channel. patch, source, key, velocity , time , port, bank, volume, pan, size

  • Recording in realtime, by step and from notation

  • Controlling basic time events. Looping. Go to. Tempo control. 

PART2 Project

  • Manipulating track parameters of a given musical compostion.

  • Creating and Editing short loops for multimedia

Sequencing midi and audio to video frames

Using music sequencers as slaves ( time code syncs to other digital devices) 

  • Using SMPTE and other time frames for video formats to synchronise to sequencer programs.

  • Using loop and  punch techniques for audio, video and midi

MODULE 04 INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSITION AND ARRANGEMENT WITH SEQUENCERS.

The prerequiste is a minimum of Grade 3 music theory or the equivalent knowledge, Score Reading skills and Instrumental tequnique preferably on keyboards/ piano.

The following are adapted to commercial instrumental music using Jazz, Dance and Rock and fusions thereof. 

  • Chordal voicings and progressions
  • Orchestration 
  • Contrapunctal techniques
  • Melodic and Rhythmic sequences
  • Simple Formal structures

MODULE 1A CLASSICAL ORCHESTRAL MUSIC

Orientated towards complete beginners without your own instruments. A maximum of 4 per course. Ensembles are 1 hour long p/week

You will play specially arranged beginner level parts to PACHELBELs CANON  and ALBINONIs ADAGIO as course repertoire.

You will play on our keyboards using string, organ, harp and other sounds.

The rhythms of  whole notes, half notes and quarter notes are learnt and played as parts fitting to the course repertoire.

Solos are played in C Major . You play the 12 variations on these 2 themes.

If you already have an instrument you receive a tape or CD to play these parts with at home too.

MODULE 1B ROCK

Orientated towards complete beginners without your own instruments. A maximum of 4 per course. Ensembles are 1 hour long p/week

You will play specially arranged parts to FLEETWOOD MAC's "Dont stop the thinking about the music" and "A WHITER SHADE OF PALE" as course repertoire.

You will play on our keyboards using Rock organ, Honky-tonk piano, Overdrive guitar and other sounds.

The rhythms of  whole notes, half notes and quarter notes are learnt and played as parts fitting to the course repertoire.

Pentatonic solos in E are played and the chords of E A and D are learnt 

If you already have an instrument you receive a tape to play these parts with at home too.

 

 

MODULE 1C TECHO and DANCE MUSIC

Orientated towards complete beginners without your own instruments. A maximum of 4 per course. Ensembles are 1 hour long p/week

You will play specially arranged parts to Robert Miles' "CHILDREN" and "NEVER ENDING DREAM" as course repertoire.

You will play on our keyboards using various synth sampled sounds.

The rhythms of  whole notes, half notes and quarter notes are learnt and played as parts fitting to the course repertoire.

The ionian mode of C is learnt  to play solos chords and bass lines to the course repertoire.

If you already have an instrument you receive a tape to play these parts with at home too.

 

 

MODULE 1D (A mixture styles in 1A 1B and 1C)   Also offered Bergvliet High School Continuing Education program as "Continuous Play Complete Beginners Band or Orchestra " 

Orientated towards complete beginners without your own instruments. A maximum of 4 per course. Ensembles are 1 hour long p/week

2 pieces from modules 1A 1B or 1C are chosen depending on requests.

The parts you play seem childsplay and you will be surprised how easy it is to play written music even in the first session. 

The written music is written in specially created music fonts which show you not only the staves but refer you to the simple  A to G musical alphabet. 

The rhythm are as simple as tapping your fingers. Although your part is easy and simple the High quality Synthesised backings of other instruments  create variety and interest as they are the original parts to the well known music we  play.

MODULE 1E "Resurrect your instrument"

An ensemble group for players with some reading ability. on Wind, Brass, String and keyboards (Pianists can use the ensemble keyboards provided)

Dont feel that you have "forgotten" things that cant easily be rembered. Because of the easy fonts and different levels you will get parts to play that will can be learnt with ease. If you prefer I will fax you the parts before the course begins. 

We play a variety of Styles of Music. layers of different levels are accomodated by parts especially written for players between about Grade 2 to grade 8 levels or the equivalent. 

Original Classical, Rock as well as Contemporary pieces are played. 

Maximum 12 players for the Bergvliet Continuing Education course and Maximum 4 playerrs at studio and other venues.

MODULE 2A CLASSICAL ORCHESTRAL MUSIC

Orientated towards beginners with your own instruments having completed module 1A or having previous but "unremebered" knowledge from years back. For Flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, piano or keyboards.

You will play specially arranged parts to 6 Symphonic works, exploring rhythms, pitch and chords. For keyboard/pianists the left hand is introduced as well.

The time signatures of 44 34 68, more complex dotted rhythms, and musical use of arpeggio/ chords and solos in CMajor G major F Major Bb Major and a minor are introduced. 

You will need to use the CD or tape we provide as part of the course fee to do about 40 mins practice at home each week.

MODULE 2B ROCK

Orientated towards beginners with your own instruments having completed module 1A or having previous but "unremebered" knowledge from years back. For Flute, recorder,  clarinet, saxophone, guitar, piano or keyboards.

You will play specially arranged parts to 60s 70s 80s and 90s rock styles learning the styles of JETHRO TULL, METALLICA and others.

The time signatures of 44 34 68, more complex dotted rhythms, and musical use of arpeggio/ chords and solos in a minor G major F Major Bb Major and a minor are introduced.

Pentatonic solos in A and D are added from course 2A and 7th chords in the keys of E A and D as well as new rock solo scales are learnt and played

You will need to use the CD or tape we provide as part of the course fee to do about 40 mins practice at home each week.

 

MODULE 2C Techno, House and Dance.

Orientated towards beginners with your own instruments having completed module 1C or having previous but "unremebered" knowledge from years back. For Flute, recorder,  clarinet, saxophone, guitar, piano or keyboards.

You will play specially arranged parts to House, Techno and Dance arrangements 

The time signatures of 44 34 68, more complex dotted rhythms, and musical use of arpeggio/ chords and solos in a minor G major F Major Bb Major and a minor are introduced.

Pentatonic solos in G and A are added from course 2A and Choedal voicings of 3rds and 6ths from the  chords in the keys of G D F a min e min are learnt. New modal solo scales within these keys are also learnt and played

You will need to use the CD or tape we provide as part of the course fee to do about 40 mins practice at home each week.

MODULE 2D Styles from 1B 2B and 3C

Orientated towards beginners with your own instruments as well as beginner guitarists with instruments A maximum of 4 per course. Ensembles are 1 hour long p/week

2 pieces from modules 1B 2B or 3B are chosen depending on requests.
