Digital Pianos The basics

DIGITAL PIANOS  COMPARISONS
All Digital pianos are better suited to piano style playing than most keyboards especially in these areas :

* Sounds sustain far longer closer to real piano
* Heavy weighted key hammer action make playing soft in left hand and bringing out louder melody in right hand possible, (keyboards touch sensitivity only allows that to a very limited degree)

PORTABLES

All come with sustain pedals
Optional 3 pedal units on some models
Debatable as to usefulness of soft pedal on 3 pedal units as portables can play softly easily

Softer than cabinet models
Can be heard fine in medium sized room

Most are not supplied with stands which are optional ( wooden or folding metal ) the exception being some . models which include the wooden stand + 2 pedals

CABINETS

Have sliding or hinged covers over keys
Have 3 pedals: soft/sustain/sostenuto ( This pedal selectively sustains notes)
"sostenuto." This pedal selectively sustains notes

Most models slightly louder than Portable models
(slightly bigger speakers and amplifiers) Can be heard slightly louder in medium sized room but still need a keyboard amplifier or PA for large halls or stage performance

Most come in laminate wooden finish with the exception of Polished ebony look on Clavitch SARP210 ans SARP310, Kurzweil MP10 , Roland.
