RANGE 10 notes  C D E F G A B C D E

These xylorimbas are hand made for skysun pty ltd in south africa. They use a rare and expensive wood called padouk to make the keys which is wonderfully resonant and gives a good volume. so as opposed to the smaller keys of an orff instrument they carry considerably volume, with a similar sound to a marimba but a bit softer . they are also excellent for portable use travelling , being very compact.

The longest base note C is 45 cm long

Each key is 5-6 cm breadth and 2cm depth

Padauk wood's qualities include a striking, vibrant reddish-orange color that deepens to a rich brown over time, high Janka hardness, exceptional dimensional stability, natural resistance to decay and insects, and good workability. Its durability makes it suitable for both interior and exterior applications, though its color can fade to gray in sunlight.

Vibrant Color:

  • Padauk is known for its intense red to orange color, a defining aesthetic feature.

  • Color Change:
The vibrant red fades to a gray-brown when exposed to light and humidity but can be restored with a fresh cut or finishing.

  • Natural Luster:
It often displays a deep, natural luster and can be found with figured grain, such as ribbon or striped patterns.

Durability & Stability
  • Hardness:
With a Janka hardness rating between 1,710 and 1,970 lbf, padauk is a very hard and strong wood.

  • Stability:
It is exceptionally dimensionally stable, meaning it resists warping and shrinking, making it reliable for projects.

  • Decay & Insect Resistance:
Padauk naturally resists rot, decay, and insect attacks, including termites.
