STRING INSTRUMENTS
Considerations when buying a string instrument - Violin Viola Cello or Double Bass
Stentnor, Flame Lily, Courante, Jinyin and Palatino String Instruments
For a student some cheaper violins have laminated tops. Laminated wood has the advantage that it is slightly stronger in fact than solid wood string instruments priced above them .
QUALITY
These string instruments are manufactured with better much than average design specifications than most factory models - better quality woods - beautiful finishes mark even the student range
2 Optional setup options
SETUP -SIMPLE simple placing of the bridge upright and tuning strings + initial stretching of the strings and tuning
FULL CUSTOM QUALIFIED LUTHIER SETUP ( applies to Double bass also )
VIOLIN or CELLO SETUP ENHANCEMENT spending a little more n setup enhancement by our partner qualified luthiers is somethign to seriously consider
VIOLIN or CELLO BRIDGE -
Curved to more exact measurements in line with the actual violin wherby the violin or cello strings will lie at absolute minimum aglke fomr each other rather than too much of an angle, When lying at the exact correct angle the players elbow bowing movement is minimised changing from string to string and allows for better technqiue to be developed by the player thats its only fair to give violin or cello students a chance to develop from the begining rather than struggle with excessive elbow bowing movement
VIOLIN OR CELLO NUT
The nut at the end of the violin or cello fingerboard on some strings usually needs a slight adjustement to the depth of the grooves where the strings pass through . This ensures the strings lie closer to the fingerboard, so no undue pressure needs be placed on the strings when pressing to the fingerboard, this enabling fast fingering and the essential accurate and fluid technique thats its only fair to give violin or cello students a chance to develop from the begining rather than struggle with a simple matter like finger pressure.
VIOLIN OR CELLO Soundpost
The position of the soundpaost , normally fione is any case checked. A wringly position soundpost will mean sound tonal deterioration
VIOLIN OR CELLO Streching of the strings STRINGS _ STRETCHING - To stretch violin strings is essential initally for it to stay in tune for longer.
beginner - we send our violins to a violin maker in Wellington for setup -Charl du toit - or other professionals
DELIVERY is 2 to 3 day to main centres countrywide ( JHB DURBAN BLOEMFONTEIN PE - All of Northwest- a day or longer to outlying towns
Student violins violas cellos and double basses, whether uk usa european or chinese generally do not have perfectly fitting sound posts for instance and the bridge is rarely perfectly perfectly correct. A decent bow also makes a difference. Whiklst spending this money for a beginner is unneccessary, as one advances and becomes more capable of producing a better sound, its a nice reward for all your hard work to enhance the violin.
Charl offers various forms of setup but he always puts in a new custom sound post and will in 90% cases work on the bridge Weve been impressed with his adjustments and the results are really superb at the price of these violins
With solid spruce top models the sound is extremely good after his adjustments .
Strings that come with them as with all student factory models from anywhere really do give them a slightly metaliic sounds He showed us the same models with decent strings like Pirastro Dominant or Thomasek - type of your choice -added to the price
The result can be a completely different mellow tone on a solid top violin replicating only pretty expensive violins in some cases
People naturally ask where our instruments come from . Like Andreas Eastman, Johannes Köhr, Andrew Schroetter and countless "Tonally, the Chinese woods are usually regarded as providing a warmer, less penetrating sound," says Joel Becktell, vice president of Eastman Strings, whose Samuel Eastman, Andreas Eastman, and Mark Moreland instrument lines all are handmade in China by expert craftsmen. "The European tonewoods have a reputation of being more brilliantly focused in their sound."
JIN YIN
Jinyin string instruments are manufactured by JIN YIN and sold to us in partnership with JIN YIN
They are manufactured to our higher specifications with higher grade tonally more rich spruce and maple woods than used on the entry level JIN YIN String instrumentsscribed above to upgrade and offer instruments at up to 50% price of their European counterparts yet ironically often even better quality. .
