We are fortunate to have Megan on our staff who although she is a cello player can  demo violins we keep in stock , she being a string player.  too.

Depending on the price / quality of the violin some manufacturers provide various grades of setup. However a violin dealer ( if they have experience needs to advise client about individual cellos as the setup is critical to the performance and very complex )

We send certain violins for setup ( it takes an extra day or 2 thats all ) to the violin luthier  ( a builder of violins ) who does the following :

• PHASE 1 VIOLIN LUTHIER( VIOLIN MAKER) 
•   Advanced luthier measuring instruments are used and only with the experience luthier has on daily basis is a good result ever achieved
  
• Puts up the bridge and curves it ( curving sanding down especially important - factory curves are just too basic  )
  
• Tunes cello  pegs adjusting looseness or tightness
  
•  adjusts   fine tuners and stretches strings so they remain in tune better.
• Checks no problems ( small cracks, irregular bridge size etc)
• Perhaps most critical in setup is adjustment of pegs so they are neither too loose ( tuning will slip ) nor tight 
• check position of soundpost

• PHASE 2
  
• (OPTIONAL BUT ADVISABLE unless in  a hurry )
  
• The instrument is returned to us - Megan our string player tunes and stretches the strings over 3-4 times of 2-3 days avoiding you needing to wait for strings to settle every week while  your teacher tunes them as your teacher cannot tune them every day for several days which is a quicker option
